We all have special people in our electorates who volunteer their time and skills to make our communities a more special place.
Today I give a special mention to local Port Stephens builder Sam Mayne who recently volunteered his skills to complete a renovation at Karingal Preschool in Nelson Bay. This beautiful local community preschool is run by a parent management committee and they were overjoyed with the results of their recent renovation.
Put simply, this incredible outcome would not have been possible without Sam volunteering his time and know‑how, as well as being ably assisted by his apprentice, over a four-week period during the Christmas break. Sam is also a parent at Karingal, so he understands the importance of quality preschool education.
With the renovations completed, the preschool is more open and welcoming. The new once-cramped entry area is now light filled and much more open.
I thank the preschool's director, Adelaide Stockman, and her wonderful staff for making a difference every day to children's lives. I also thank Sam Mayne for his generosity.
